Like all love stories, they start somewhere...

So here is how our own love story began... In a quaint little town called Potchefstroom in the North West province of South-Africa. Two 22 year olds had fondly become friends and in a matter of only four months, they both (secretly) knew "THIS IS IT"! When you know, you know, you know? Cliché, I know. On a warm summer's evening, fate had stepped in and destiny had been confirmed. 

During a walk around the block, Arno had leaped up to a house where someone had been growing sweet peas (the most fragrant flowers ever). This is my (Nina's) favorite flower and I had always asked God to give me a clear sign on how to know if I ever "meet the one". I thought I would make it extra tricky because how many guys will know what a sweet pea flower is? I mean, it's not your average store bought flower, screw the gerberas. So my words were (long before I had met Arno, this was when I was about 17 and I had never told a soul about this "ultimatum" of mine) I said "if he is the one, let him give me a sweet pea flower, then I will know it is from You".... My heart skipped a beat when it all unfolded in front of my eyes and Arno handed me a sweet pea flower. I still have that same flower pressed and saved in a book.

The rest is history. Made it official a few months later, got surprised with a honeymoon baby. Yup. That's us. We are "that couple" haha. Wouldn't have it any other way though. Biggest blessing ever. Femke joined shortly after we got married and Amelie followed a few years later. We love our girls to bits. 

From a photography perspective, we both looooved taking photos and having cameras in our hands, even before we had met each other. It's only after our own wedding that Arno had bought in on my lifelong dream of becoming a wedding photographer. My uncle was a wedding photographer. I still remember the emotion that it had evoked within me, when I would glance through the wedding photos lying around in his studio. Remember those days as a kid, when grown ups would get upset because you weren't allowed to touch the photographs on the inside, or else it would get fingerprints (eyes rolling). Nevertheless, as a little 8 year old girl, I would think to myself "Waaow! How wonderful it must feel to spend this time with the bride and groom." 

Arno's photography journey started off with film cameras (due to his father) and later he would be gifted a digital camera (also, thanks dad) that he would later use to document things on the tours that he and his band would go on. His passion for "seeing and capturing" precious opportunities and turning them into photographs all sprouted from this.

Creating art with your love story - through our eyes and work is where our passion lies. We direct when needed whilst simultaneously believe in giving you space to engage in the spontaneous moments as they happen on the day. Being light hearted and minded - we make sure to have you feel comfortable, relaxed and at ease. Another part of being a wedding photographer that excites my brains out is editing your photos. Our editing style has been described by others as warm, natural, artistic and my favorite one - cinematic. A loooot of love and attention goes into carefully curating & editing your images. Although your collection as a whole will be edited with one signature look, we love the fact that some images will stand out as art that could hang in a museum or be painted in oil medium.

A few facts about us:

1. We are massive The Office fans and refer to The Office on a daily basis. The best part was when people/couples and friends on Instagram started sending us memes and reels referring to the office and I know that by now our obsession with The Office is known to the rest of the world. A couple once gave us a Dundie Award during their speeches - it was for best photographers. Proud moment.

2. As a little girl, Nina would dress her Barbie dolls in wedding clothes and put them in the garden and trees to photograph "their wedding" with her first digital camera that her dad bought for her 11th birthday (thank you dad). Her mom thought it was truly creative and submitted it to the eisteddfod (competition) where she actually won a few rounds with them. 

3. Arno's cube solving record is 48 seconds and his highest cycling FTP is 320w.

4. Nina's maiden name is Rebel! 

5. Arno can dissolve away into a good book when reading. Curling up with a blanket and a book is his ultimate treat. Nina is the opposite, can never sit still for too long. Always busy in the garden, organizing and finding good (or new) spots for the things she had thrifted or for her many houseplants.

6. The weirdest sandwich Nina has ever eaten is tuna fish, mayo & banana. She had a craving but was instantly cured when she tasted it. It was horrible, I do not - recommend it. 

7. Bucket list wedding - shooting one in the Alps or in Scotland. 

8. We dream of owning a piece of land one day where we can have a little wood cabin house, have as many chickens as Nina's heart desires, maybe a few livestock, a huge flower and veggie garden and a large yard for the girls to play. In winter time, Arno will chop wood for our fireplace...cozyyyyy!

9. Regardless of the fact that none of us ever studied photography, we have shot over 300 weddings and have actually lost count of how many times we have had the honour of embracing love stories of couples through our art.
